2021. What a year! (Insert crazy faced emoji here…) Despite it’s roller coaster of emotions, it came with a few fun discoveries. From the best joggers (ever!) to a backyard fire pit, this post captures a few favorite additions to my closet, makeup bag, jewelry box, and our home. This list can be random at times, but so am I. Enjoy — and be sure to share your own favorite discoveries of 2021 in the comments!
CLOTHING
Vuori Performance Joggers – My absolute FAVORITE transition of the day is into my Vuori Joggers. They’re buttery soft, wash beautifully, and feel like heaven. The waist band doesn’t ride up or fall down… and NO MUFFIN TOP! Bonus: if you haven’t ordered from them before, you can sign up for their newsletter and get a 15% off discount code!
Hill House Home Athena Dress (Pictured above!) – While I love the cult favorite Nap Dress (in person and on others!), this style works better for my body type. I snagged a couple more summery prints after Christmas for $35 and felt like a real bargain hunter! I do wear a strapless bra with this, as the sleeves could be worn on or off the shoulder.
lululemon Perfectly Oversized Sweatshirt – My new go-to school drop-off uniform is a pair of Aligns or Wunder Unders with one of these bum-covering sweatshirts on top. They’re oversized but they still hold good proportions around the shoulders. Though I am typically a 4 or 6 in lulu tops, I took this in a 4 and it’s great! (Pro tip: I’ve found other colors on Poshmark!)
Athleta Wool Cashmere Aspen Turtleneck Sweater – Over the years, I have come to love this wool cashmere blend from Athleta. They release a few sweaters in this material yearly, so I’m always on the lookout. I was able to snag this sweater in Electric Fuschia in a big pre-Christmas sale. They’re worth the investment because they last so many seasons, even after repeated wear. One other big win for me is that they don’t require dry cleaning. The tag says to hand wash, but I put them in a large lingerie bag in the cold cycle. After a day on the drying rack, they’re back in my rotation. I tried both the XS and S, but I kept the XS because this style is particularly oversized.
Tuckernuck Hydrangea Hayes Shirt Dress – What do you get when you combine hydrangeas and a wrinkle-free fabric? This adorable shirt dress — which is currently 35% off! If I needed to look put together after the pool or beach, this dress did the trick in a snap. I’ll be watching for it in other colorways this spring and summer.
AG Robyn Jacket – I technically bought this in 2020, but it really became part of my rotation in 2021. I threw it over dresses all summer and fall. The price tag was a bit higher, but the quality of the jacket is ten times better than the one it replaced.
BB Dakota Retrograde Sweater – When the temps dropped in November, I went on the hunt for a sweater that was timeless but had a little flair. This BB Dakota sweater checked both boxes. It has a tiny bit of metallic thread (without being over the top!) weaved into its classic oatmeal color.
SHOES + ACCESSORIES
Loeffler Randall Gold Penny Knot Mules – I’m sure you’ve seen these beauties on Instagram for a bit, but I finally took advantage of a Tuckernuck sitewide sale to try them for myself. I’m a HUGE fan. After reading other reviews, I sized up a half size and I was glad I did. These will be in my rotation for years to come. (I also love the Metallic Rose color! Swoon!)
Pretty Ballerinas Black Suede Tyra Flats – I’ve tried SO many flats over the years. Out of the box, this pair has been the most comfortable I’ve found (possibly ever). I snagged these in the same Tuckernuck sale as the sandals above. They have a great cushion feel on the soles without being bulky. No blisters or break-in time! WIN!
Matisse Ocean Avenue Sandals – I wore these VERY budget-friendly wedges alllllll summer! There weren’t many left, but I bet they’ll restock or you might be able to find elsewhere. My feet didn’t slide around and I walked miles in them without an issue. Worth every penny!
MZ Wallace Mini Metro Deluxe Tote – I’ve been eyeing this little tote for ages… and I finally splurged and got it. I love crossbody bags and I’ve loved MZ Wallace, so this was a match in heaven. It’s not high fashion, but good golly, it’s functional. It holds WAY more than I expected too. I got it in black, but it’s available in a number of other more fun colors.
Loren Hope Arista Slider Necklace in Cosmic Ombré – Loren Hope does no wrong. Truly. This slider necklace adds amazing sparkle and color to any outfit. I’ve worn it short and long… and it garners compliments each time I wear it. This particular ombré is something else too. It goes with everything. Dressed up or down, this was definitely a favorite addition to my Loren Hope collection in 2021.
Lele Saladoughi Neoprene Knotted Headband – If you see me in one of these headbands, it’s likely because I want to hide my frizz — and it shows up to do that job! The neoprene versions are colorful and playful, but they also don’t damage my hair. I’ve tried many a headband in my day… and Lele Saladoughi wins all day long. They’re not cheap, but you can tell the difference when you don’t have a headache hours into wearing the 😉
BEAUTY
Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Rose Gold Eye Masks – If I have anywhere “to be” (which still wasn’t often in 2021), I always donned these while getting ready. They give a super hydrating boost and don’t slide off your face. They also make perfect gifts!
Merit Shade Slick Vegan Tinted Lip Oil in Sangria – One of my best friends introduced me to Merit (her sister-in-law works there!) and I’m OBSESSED. This lip oil goes on beautifully and it stays on much longer than other clean lip products I’ve tried. The Sangria color is a deep berry color, perfect for winter!
Ilia Multi-Stick Cheek & Lip in Lady Bird – With the help of a beauty sponge, this multi-stick gives me a little pick-me-up in a few quick swipes. This color isn’t overpowering or seasonally specific. It has a great consistency and doesn’t feel cakey or heavy. Love!
Tata Harper Glow Facial Set – A few years ago, I went to a free Tata Harper facial appointment at Follain. They introduced me to this combination… and when I discovered it in a SET, I was over the moon. I apply the glow facial in the shower before I shave my legs. Even with only five minutes, I see a definite glow. It smells divine too!
Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo + No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner – My hairstylist introduced me to this at a recent appointment. I was skeptical since the bottles were so small… and I have a lot of hair… but the lather is fantastic and a little really does go a long way. Two months in, my hair is softer and easier to manage. Count me in!
Mazz Hanna Roller Relief – When I booked a recharge pedicure at Miniluxe, I didn’t know exactly what that meant… I just knew I needed a recharge 😉 Little did I know, I’d be introduced to this divine product. I had to buy one for myself after that appointment. Besides smelling incredible, it helps me settle down after a crazy day and ease into a great night of sleep.
HOME
Solo Stove Yukon Backyard Bundle – We finally saw one of these in person at a backyard shindig in August… and it was the final push we needed to order one of our own. We’ve spent some incredible nights around our Yukon in the months since ours arrived. I also love that I don’t smell like fire after a burn (which I could never say around campfires before!).
Voluspa Crushed Candy Cane Macaron Candle – I picked up one of these candles locally at Island Books and fell in love with the light scent. It’s not too holiday specific, though the packaging is. I’ve been burning it long after Christmas was complete without any weird looks from my family members.
Hatch Rest + – When our OK to Wake clocks stopped holding a battery charge, we knew it was time to make a change. After some research, I landed on these clocks from Hatch. You can change the schedule and color from your phone… which is a big bonus when you’ve had a late night and want to do a coy morning schedule shift 😉 They also have embedded sound machines. I wish I’d paid up for these out of the gate!
Serena & Lily Riviera Swivel Counter Stool – We’ve loved our non-swivel stools in our kitchen for the last seven years, so when it came time to find something for our basement… I picked these beauties without hesitation. They’ve been great for our space, as you can watch TV and then turn easily back around for some snacks.
